Coast Mental Health’s Courage To Come Back Awards

Following the government’s advice, it is with heavy hearts that we are postponing Coast Mental Health’s 22nd Courage To Come Back Awards. The health and safety of our community is our number one priority and we will continue to monitor the situation and liaise with the relevant authorities as we plan an alternative celebration of our award recipients.

We will keep all stakeholders up to date as we have more information and  will be in touch directly with existing table purchasers and sponsors regarding next steps.

The Courage To Come Back Awards raise critical funds to support some of B.C.’s most vulnerable populations.  Now, more than ever, people experiencing mental illness need you. Without you, key services such as daily affordable meals, free toiletries and showers and mental health support, amongst many others may be at risk. In this time of uncertainty, if you’d like to consider donating to Coast Mental Health Foundation, we would be grateful for your support and generosity – Donate

In the meantime, we thank all our supporters for their understanding.

Coast Mental Health’s Courage To Come Back Awards is one of the largest fundraising events of its kind in Western Canada. The funds raised help Coast Mental Health ensure that people with mental illness receive the homes, education, employment and support they need to move from hopelessness and despair to leading rich, full lives and realizing their potential. Coast Mental Health has been a leader innovative community-based mental health services for more than 45 years. Each year, Coast helps over 4,500 people on the path towards recovery.

At Coast Mental Health, we know that with the right supports, people can overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges, build better lives and contribute meaningfully to our communities.

First held in Vancouver in 1999, the Courage To Come Back Awards were born out of our firsthand experience of the human spirit’s inspiring capacity to overcome adversity and our wish to celebrate British Columbians who have found the courage to come back.

The Courage To Come Back Awards are given in five categories:

  • Mental Health
  • Addiction
  • Medical
  • Physical Rehabilitation
  • Youth

Each award recipient will share their own courageous story of triumph over adversity, making it clear that it is not the challenge itself but the way one responds to it that defines success.

Courage To Come Back Award recipients will be recognized at a gala celebration , where their stories will be told and accomplishments honoured. Chaired by Lorne Segal, O.B.C., D.Litt. (Hon.), LLD. (Hon.), President of Kingswood Properties Ltd., the Courage To Come Back Awards gala has become Coast’s most important fundraiser. Nearly 1,700 people attended the 21st Event on April 24, 2019, raising an extraordinary $2.5 million for mental health. Funds raised from the Courage To Come Back Awards ensure Coast Mental Health can continue providing the innovative, client-centered programs that have made Coast a leader in community-based mental health care.
